Varicose Vein Laser Treatment - VenaCure EVLTTM
Varicose Vein Laser Treatment – VenaCure EVLT™ Treatment
VenaCure EVLT™ treatment stands for endovenous laser treatment, a leading varicose vein treatment procedure from AngioDynamics. It is simple, effective, and is the first choice of patients and Dr. Golan. The treatment takes about an hour to eliminate varicose veins.
During the procedure, a laser is inserted inside the varicose vein. The energy from the laser seals the vein closed preventing blood from flowing through it. Research shows a success rate of 93%-98% in individuals undergoing VenaCure EVLT™ treatment (based on clinical data with up to five years of follow-up). This success rate is much higher than the alternative treatments including: radiofrequency treatment, surgical ligation and stripping.
Like all other minimally invasive procedures, the VenaCure EVLT™ procedure can potentially result in some minor bruising, which usually goes away during the first several weeks. With VenaCure EVLT™ treatment, you will feel a “pulling” sensation as well as delayed tightness about 4 to 7 days after the varicose vein treatment procedure is completed. These side effects are normal and are expected after a successful treatment procedure. During the procedure, you will be provided with special glasses to wear in order to protect your eyes. This is just a precaution against accidental laser energy firing outside an individual’s body.
When medically necessary for symptom relief, the VenaCure EVLT™ procedure is usually reimbursed by the majority of carriers, including Medicare – which limits cost for the patient.
Spider Vein Treatment – SCLEROTHERAPY
Performed since the 1960s, sclerotherapy is the standard of care for the treatment of small varicose and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a “sclerosing” solution into the affected vessel. The solution causes an inflammation in the lining of the vessel, which swells and eventually closes the vein. The procedure is done in-office and requires no anesthesia. Patients report very little, if any, discomfort. After treatment, the leg(s) should be elevated for a few hours and compression stockings worn for several days. There is almost no disruption of daily routines following sclerotherapy.
Response to sclerotherapy varies from patient to patient and is dependent on the severity of the spider veins or varicosities. Treatment usually takes several sessions of sclerotherapy and results are not immediate. Generally, it takes 4-8 weeks for the veins to disappear with optimal results appearing in 4-6 months.
Spider veins respond well to sclerotherapy. Several sessions of sclerotherapy are usually needed to maximize results.
