Endovenous Laser Treatment
Laser vein treatment is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical ligation and stripping of the veins. Because it's minimmaly invasive, it can be performed in an out-patient setting, and requires only local anesthesia. Pre-op to post-op time is less than two hours, with the actual procedure taking about 45 minutes. Patients experience significantly less discomfort, as compared to surgery, both during and after the treatment, are able to resume to normal activity immediately following the procedure, and most see immediate results.
The procedure works by using highly concentrated laser light emitted into the target area through a thin fiber that is inserted into the vein. The laser heats the blood in the vein, causing the vein wall to collapse. This results in the vein being closed off and preventing further backflow or reflux from that vein.
